The Gathering Storm
Today is no different. As the "Boomers" mature, each aspect of life for the Boomer generation becomes the next "big thing" that will be demanded by them. We are entering the time when Baby Boomers will demand more from the retirement and social security systems, the health, welfare and medical systems while at the same time, will be producing less support for these systems. The aging population is turning economic models upside down, and here in America that means that fewer workers will be supporting more and more of the aging population as life expectancy increases, and retiring Boomers take themselves out of the work force.
A Growing List Of Broken Promises
We are seeing signs that the governments, and big business, are beginning to back away from the promises of security during the "golden years". So what should we expect? The obvious common sense conclusion is that the Boomers will have to make adjustments right along with everyone else if they are to maintain the pride, dignity and independence that have become the most obvious qualities they possess.
Finding Ways To Fill The Gaps
What sort of adjustments will they need to make? Well, for starters, as evidenced by the statistics in the presentation on this page, they will have to continue to carry part of the load. Maybe not as much in the past, but some. What sort of problems will Boomers have to overcome? For starters, their incomes will drop and/or become fixed and at the same time costs are increasing as they always do. Taxes won't go down just because incomes are frozen. Food, utilities, services, transportation and housing will all continue to increase too, and the Boomers will be expected to carry their part of the load at precisely the juncture in their lives when they are much less capable of doing so.
Creating Solutions That Apply To Everyone
Some Boomers will be able to continue on with their employers, or a competitor, in some capacity, due to their specialized knowledge which remains valuable and marketable. But these very fortunate individuals are part of a very small minority of the retiring Boomer population. Unfortunately, most will fall into the less desirable categories that seem to lock them into a failing system, with little if any recourse due to either physical or financial inadequacies. Most will have very little discretionary income, and little physical ability to compete with their younger counterparts. So whatever solution is to be had, must be something that is not expensive or physically demanding.
Crisis Created Alternatives
There will be many different alternative methods of earning "supplemental" or "extra" income born as a result of the coming and deepening Baby Boomer Retirement Crisis. Those that catch fire early in the process will become vehicles that will allow Boomers to create their own "security safety nets". The early "vangard" of the Boomer Retirees will have an opportunity to benefit expotentially from these new and different ideas for earning additional income. The best of these new income producing vehicles will be simple, understandable, logical, not physically demanding, and easily leveraged with a minimal amount of time and money.
A New Problem And A New Way Of Thinking
Even though the earliest of Boomers are just now entering the age of retirement, there is already a new wave of thinking, a new paradigm if you will, that is beginning to come to the attention of this group. Old ideas are becoming new, with a twist for the better. The Internet is becoming the "equalizer" that can drive these simple, but formerly undesirable occupations, to new heights, as it opens the reality of national, even worldwide, "marketing" to those who were previously excluded for lack of skill, ability or finances. For those who are able to "retool" preconcieved notions and fears of technology, computers, and yes, even opinions of direct marketing, homebased businesses, education, and learning, there is a whole new, and wide open playing field on which to operate. The time has come. The time is now.
Ordinary People Can Make This Work Too
As a member of the early Boomer generation, I found myself coming into the "retirement" years of my life well ahead of the masses of our generation that was born after World War II. I am a war baby, born in 1943, and as such have been out front in most of all the generational issues that have become the hallmark of the Boomers. Computers didn't interest me in the beginning of the great technology explosion, but when the Internet began to take hold and gather momentum, it got my attention. I decided that eventually I would have to find a way to earn income with something other than physical strength, so I began to teach myself something about computers. Through this process I have discovered that there are many out there who are in the same boat that I am in, or soon will be. An opportunity became apparent to me, and I am here to tell you that it is not as difficult as one might think. There is really nothing special about me. I just decided to become a part of the solution rather than wait to become a part of the problem. I am doing it, and you can too.
